Common questions
What does the app actually do?
MIND Diet Companion is a food and habit coach for the MIND way of eating — a whole-food pattern that blends the Mediterranean and DASH diets. You log meals by voice or text, and it reflects back how your day fit the MIND pattern — green leafy vegetables, other vegetables, berries, nuts, whole grains, beans, fish, poultry, and olive oil, with red meat, butter, cheese, sweets, and fried or fast food kept light. A strip at the top of the chat shows at a glance which of those signature foods you've hit today. It is not a medical app: it does not track lab values or symptoms, it makes no claim about your brain, memory, or dementia risk, and it sends any medical question to your doctor.
Does the MIND diet actually protect my brain or prevent dementia?
The MIND pattern is a whole-food way of eating that has been studied in relation to brain health — observational research linked it to slower cognitive decline, but the one large randomized trial did not find a clear cognitive benefit. So it is a genuinely healthy, well-studied way to eat, and that is what the App helps you do well. The App makes noclaim that it prevents, slows, treats, or reduces the risk of Alzheimer's, dementia, cognitive decline, or memory loss — any question about your cognitive health, memory, or risk is a conversation for your doctor. It is a food coach, not a medical tool.
How do I log what I ate — and fix it if I get it wrong?
Just say or type what you had, in a plain sentence — "kale salad, blueberries, and a handful of walnuts." No forms, no barcode scanning. If an amount is unclear ("rice," "some cheese"), the App asks how much first so the numbers come out right; say "just log it" and it estimates and tells you what it assumed. For a packaged product, it looks the item up and shows the macros — for one serving on the label — before logging, so you can confirm it found the right one.
To fix anything, just say the correction — "that was a large bowl, not small," "change it to two slices," or "delete the banana." There's no editing screen; you correct the same way you log.
Can I save meals I eat often?
Yes. Tell the App "save my usual breakfast" and it remembers the dish; re-log it anytime by name, and scale it ("I had 1.5× my usual"). A saved recipe logs as one dish. To change a saved item, describe the tweak ("my usual bowl also has almonds"); to un-save it, say "remove my usual from saved" — your logged history stays.
Can I log workouts or activity too?
Yes — mention movement ("walked 40 minutes," "an hour at the gym") and the App logs it as context for your coaching. MIND is about your eating pattern, not a calorie-deficit ledger, so activity is background — it won't tell you you've "earned" food.
Can it help me reach a weight goal?
Yes. Tell it your goal — lose, maintain, or gain — and share a few basics like your age, height, and starting weight so its coaching fits you. It supports you toward the goal as part of your MIND eating pattern. It's supportive and non-medical: for a healthy target weight, a safe pace, or anything clinical, talk to your doctor.
How do I cancel my subscription?
The easiest way is inside the app: tap the gear icon → Settings → Manage/Cancel Subscription. That opens Apple's subscription screen, where you can cancel or switch plans.
You can also cancel straight from iOS:
- Open iOS Settings
- Tap your name at the top
- Tap Subscriptions
- Tap MIND Diet Companion
- Tap Cancel Subscription
Subscriptions auto-renew unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Either way, they're billed by Apple, not by us, and yours stays active until the end of the current billing period.
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles all refunds for App Store subscriptions. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com (opens in a new tab), or through the same Subscriptions screen above.
I reinstalled the App or got a new phone — how do I get my subscription back?
Your subscription is tied to your Apple ID, not to the app install. Open the App and, on the paywall, tap Restore Purchases— just make sure you're signed in to the same Apple ID you subscribed with.
How do I reset my password?
If you signed up with an email and password, tap Forgot password?on the sign-in screen and we'll email you a code to set a new one. Enter the email address you signed up with.
If you signed in with Sign in with Apple, you don't have a password to reset — tap Sign in with Apple again to get back into the same account.
Sign in with Apple isn't working
Sign in with Apple needs an iCloud account on your device. If it fails right away, open iOS Settings, make sure you're signed in to iCloud, and try again — or use email sign-in instead.
How do I delete my account and all my data?
From within the App: tap the gear icon → Settings → Delete Account. Confirm. Everything stored under your account is removed immediately and permanently.
Deleting your account does not cancel a paid subscription. Subscriptions are billed separately by Apple, so if you have one, cancel it first (see above) and then delete your account — otherwise Apple keeps charging you even after the account is gone.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Cancelling your subscription does not delete your data. Your account stays, your history stays, and you can resubscribe later without losing anything. If you want to delete your data, use the Delete Account flow above.
Can I use the App without granting Apple Health permissions?
Yes. Apple Health is an enhancement, not a requirement. You can log everything by voice or text and the App works fully. Granting Health permissions adds automatic syncing of weight, steps, body fat, resting heart rate, and sleep from your devices — you can grant any subset. When you log a weight by voice, the App can also write it back to Apple Health so your other apps stay in sync.
Can I see trends or charts over time?
Yes — ask, and the App pulls from your history to show the pattern: "how's my weight this past month?" or "chart my sleep this week." It can chart weight, body fat, resting heart rate, and sleep from your Apple Health history. These are background context for coaching, not a medical read — for anything clinical, talk to your doctor.
What do I need to use the App?
An iPhone running iOS 26 or later, and an internet connection — the coaching runs on a backend, so there's no offline mode. For age requirements and where the App is available, see the App Store listing.
Why does the App sometimes mention things I told it months ago?
The App keeps long-term memory of patterns and preferences you've shared, so it can give you context-aware coaching across weeks and months. If something the App remembers is wrong or outdated, just tell it: "actually I don't eat fish anymore" or "forget that I said X." The App will update its memory.
