Keto Chipotle order: what actually works
June 10, 2026 · 3 min read
Chipotle is genuinely keto-friendly if you know what to skip. The menu is built from simple whole ingredients, and most of the carbs are in obvious places — the tortilla, the rice, the beans. Remove those and you're left with a solid high-protein, high-fat meal.
The base order
Bowl or salad, not a burrito or tacos. The tortilla alone accounts for 50g+ net carbs — more than most people's daily ceiling. A bowl skips it entirely; a salad gives you lettuce as the base.
Say "no rice, no beans" explicitly. Staff often add rice automatically. Specifying it prevents the error. Fajita vegetables (bell peppers and onion) are low-carb and fine to keep — around 4g net carbs per serving.
Protein: any of the meats — chicken, steak, carnitas, barbacoa, sofritas — are negligible in carbs. The calories vary but not the carb count meaningfully. Double protein if you want more substance.
The toppings that are fine
- Cheese — close to zero carbs
- Sour cream — close to zero carbs
- Guacamole — about 4g net carbs per serving; worth it given the fat and satiety
- Lettuce — zero
- Fresh tomato salsa (pico de gallo) — lowest carb salsa, around 2–3g
- Tomatillo green or red salsa — slightly higher, around 3–4g each; fine in normal portions
What to watch
Corn salsa — around 8g net carbs per serving. Skip or go light if you're close to your ceiling.
Chipotle honey vinaigrette — sweet dressings always carry sugar. Skip.
Queso — check the current Chipotle formulation in their nutrition calculator; it varies.
The full order
Bowl. Barbacoa or steak. No rice, no beans. Fajita vegetables. Extra cheese. Sour cream. Guacamole. Pico de gallo. That lands roughly 5–10g net carbs depending on portion sizes — well within most ceilings.
The easiest way to log it: tell Copper Keto Companion what you got and it estimates the net carbs from the description. Restaurant meals are where voice logging matters most — there's no label, so a spoken description gives the same quality of estimate as any other method, but in seconds.
Frequently asked
Is Chipotle guacamole keto? Yes — avocado-based, around 4g net carbs per serving. It adds fat and fiber and fits easily under a standard keto ceiling.
What about the Chipotle burrito bowl with rice? The cilantro-lime rice adds around 40g net carbs per serving. Skip it entirely. The bowl is plenty filling without it.
Can you eat Chipotle on keto every day? The macros support it — the issue is sodium, not carbs. High-volume Chipotle eating means high sodium intake from the seasoned meats and salsas, which can affect water retention and blood pressure. Fine occasionally; not ideal as a daily staple.
